This course is designed for people who have a passion for working with animals to ensure they receive the best care and welfare. The ACM30117 Certificate III in Animal Studies provides the skills and knowledge to effectively care for animals housed in various facilities. On completion of this course, you will be qualified to work in a broad range of facilities including animal shelters, veterinary practices and pet shops. This is the ideal foundation course for people looking to move into specialised streams in the animal care industry and is also a natural progression for those who have already completed the ACM20117 Certificate II in Animal Studies.
The Animal Care sector is experiencing significant growth in Australia, contributing in excess of $12 billion to the Australian economy annually and employing more than 40,000 workers. The industry continues to see strong growth in areas such as pet grooming, animal health care, and the nursing, rehabilitation and treatment of animals. In addition, there is a wide variety of emerging long term career pathways in assistance, companion and therapy animals, and in captive animal management.
Key tasks and functions this qualification will prepare you for include:
- Carrying out daily health care requirements of animals
- Understanding animal health management practices and how to monitor animal health
- Nutritional planning for a range of animal species
- Safely and correctly handling and restraining animals in a variety of situations
- Providing behavioural management and enrichment for different animal species
- Implementing infection control policies and procedures in animal care workplaces
Delivery Mode & Work Placement:
This course has a blended delivery with online theory and three 1 day block training practical assessments at our Cleveland premises.
For regional/remote learners who cannot attended the premises in Cleveland, you will need to source an alternative animal care facility accessible to you, in order to complete the practical assessments. This animal care facility will need to be approved by Skills Generation and it is important you commence this process at the beginning of the course. Skills Generation staff and your trainer will be available to assist you in identifying relevant animal care facilities. You will be covered by Skills Generation insurance when undertaking these practical assessments as an enrolled learner and as part of the course requirements. You will be responsible for the cost of any travel and accommodation if the facility is outside your region.
The practical tasks you undertake as part at your voluntary/paid animal care facility will be guided by a performance assessment workbook which will be assessed by your trainer/assessor. You will need to be filmed or photographed undertaking specific tasks common to an animal care workplace. Mobile phones are perfect for this.
Courses commence on a rolling basis for your convenience. Please contact Student Services at email@example.com to find the next start date for this course.
