CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support

Want to work in Aged Care, Home and Community Care or Disability Support?  A Cert III in Individual Support is the industry entry qualification to get you on the road to a job!

Select a stream that is relevant to the job role you wish to pursue and gain the necessary skills relevant to that role.

Why have Age Care, Home and Community Care and Disability Support been put together under Individual Support?

This is reflective of the changes in the way we view and address the needs and care requirements of people in our society now.  The qualification changes are in line with the major shifts in how care provision is funded and applied in all aspects of Community Services.

Each of these streams as the names suggest, contain units to give the learner the required skills and knowledge to be able to undertake work unsupervised in a work setting appropriate to the stream.

In the case of Aged Care, you would be working in a Residential Aged Care facility (Low or High needs Care) and providing essential care to the ageing members of our community that are residents.

Home and Community Care, as the name suggests, is about providing care to ensure people remain independent in their homes for as long as possible before being required to enter Residential Care.  In this stream, you may be undertaking tasks such as assisting people with cooking, shopping and personal care needs directly in their own homes.

When you undertake our Flexible/Online version of this qualification and gain a dual specialisation in Ageing and Home and Community Care you are actually increasing your employment prospects.  Many support organisations operate in one or the other areas of this vital care provision but there are also many organisations which work across both, providing care in the home and care in residential facilities.

Disability Support may entail working with people across a broad range of physical and intellectual disabilities.  Care may be provided in either a home or support organisation setting. One of the major differences with Disability Support is that you are working with clients across a broad spectrum of ages and not just those that are Aged.

All three streams require you to undertake 120 hours of Industry Placement.

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to learn more about the organisations working in the sector, enables you to practically demonstrate the skills and knowledge you have gained in a live setting and also adds to your industry networks!

Many students end up with paid employment with the employer they undertake their placement with.
