SIS30321 Certificate Ill in Fitness is a comprehensive and practical course that will provide you with the knowledge, confidence and skills to conduct fitness assessments, design and instruct fitness programs within the fitness industry.

This course is an essential minimum requirement to work at a gym or as a group exercise instructor. You'll learn the knowledge and skills needed to provide fitness program instruction, healthy eating information and even exercise for children, adolescents, adults and senior clients.

Career Pathways

Fitness Instructors instruct groups to help clients increase their physical wellbeing and fitness. They work in fitness centres, studios, gyms, physical rehabilitation centres and often work on a casual or part-time basis, servicing more than one provider and set of clients.

Group Exercise Instructor

As a Group Exercise Instructor, you can work in a range of fitness, leisure, community centres and gym environments. You’ll deliver group exercise sessions designed for a range of clients with a mix of ages and fitness levels. You’ll instruct and demonstrate group exercise sessions that may be freestyle, pre-choreographed or circuit style.

Gym Instructor

As a Gym Instructor, you can work in a range of gym environments from studios to larger gym facilities. You can work as part of a team of fitness professionals in a gym conducting fitness appraisals, prescribing exercise programs, supervising gym members, providing advice on using gym equipment and focusing on giving customer service to your members.

This course is delivered online with practical training you can do at your local gym. We can discuss helping you set up a relationship with your local gym.   

This course is designed for self-paced online learning with professional trainer support. This means you’ll be able to progress through the course at your own pace, using interactive lessons designed specifically for online learning.

Entry Requirements


There are no prerequisites for this course.


You need to complete Year 10 or equivalent.


You need to be at least 16 years old. If you are under 18, your enrolment form will need to be signed by a parent or guardian.

Residency Status

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

What You Will Learn in SIS30321 Certificate III in Fitness

SIS30321 Certificate III in Fitness is your first step into the fitness industry. This nationally recognised  qualification allows you to be a fitness instructor. You will learn to assess, screen, train and supervise clients in fitness centres and gyms.

SIS30321 Certificate III in Fitness will prepare you to:

  • Assess and screen new clients
  • Monitor a client’s fitness level and development
  • Provide fitness training to a group of clients in a supervised and low risk-controlled setting
  • Provide advice on exercise and exercise equipment
  • Perform administration duties of the fitness centre or gym
  • Contribute to daily gym operations
  • Deliver first aid

SIS30321 Certificate III in Fitness Units

There are 15 units of competency in this qualification comprising 11 Core and four Elective units. All 15 units must be successfully completed to achieve certification. Our Fitness Generation Trainer delivers 14 units. Students need to enrol with and pay separately to an approved provider to complete the Core First Aid unit, which will be credit transferred to the Fitness Generation SIS30321 Certificate III in Fitness.
